Bethenny Frankel set for Real Housewives Season 3

BethennyFrankel1

I am a fan of Bethenny Frankel – not only because of her fantastic body, but also because of her ‘no diet’ philosophy.   So I was glad to hear that she will be returning for season 3 of the Real Housewives of NYC.   Her book, Naturally Thin, teaches a practical eating strategy that is a lifestyle–not a diet.   She just finished writing her second book, The Skinnygirl Dish, scheduled to be on shelves in January 2010.

Here is an example of her eating strategy tips that she gives on her blog: Click for more photos and rest of post “Bethenny Frankel set for Real Housewives Season 3” »

YOU on a Diet – Eating Strategies

YouDiet_1235_1

You’ve probably heard at least five different eating strategies for weight loss from fad diets–low carb, vegan, points system, matching your blood type–the list can go on and on! What would doctors say when it comes to weight loss?

Here is are very good recommendations from You on a Diet – a book written by two physicians who explain how the body works, and therefore what factors will promote weight loss:

Eating Strategies for YOU

- To help make eating automatic, pick at least one meal a day to alter and have the same foods every day for all other meals

- Eat throughout the day so that you’re constantly satisfied.  The less you eat, the more likely you are to sink into starvation mode and make your body want to store fat.

- Drink a glass or two of water before you eat.  Your perception of hunger signals may actually be thirst signals.

- Keep on hand emergency foods and items that can help you kill cravings, like V8, carrot sticks, an apple, or even Listerine breath strips

- Two spices have been shown to ad in waist management: red pepper and cinnamon.

- Realize that it’s OK to make mistakes.  The key is getting back on the right road, not beating yourself up over them.

- Use nine-inch plates for meals.  Smaller dinner plates equal smaller portions.

The G-free diet on the rise?

Elisabeth_Hasselbeck_Gfreediet

Will the G-Free diet be on the rise?  According to the Mayo Clinic, Celiac disease–an autoimmune disease of the small intestine–is four times more common than it was in the 1960s.  You can read more about it here.

Elisabeth Hasselback’s The G-Free Diet  has gotten fairly decent review on amazon.com–it was birthed out of her own testimony of struggling with celiac disease.

Many without the disease have chosen to go gluten-free in their diets, for better health and weight loss, since gluten free diets tend to cut out refined flour and all wheat products.   Another reason to cut back on refined carbs?

Bethany Frankel’s “NaturallyThin”

People Bethenny Frankel

This book came out earlier this year, but Naturally Thin, written by The Real Housewives of New York’s Bethany Frankel, has gotten mixed reviews.

Here’s a review from Health Magazine: “Bethenny Frankel’s new book promises — and delivers — the ultimate dream of every overweight American: that you can be ‘naturally thin’ without starvation dieting, exercising like a maniac, taking drugs, or feeling hungry all the time.”– Ellen Kunes, Editor-in-Chief, Health magazine ”

However, upon reading comments on amazon.com, many of the book’s readers accuse the book of promoting near-starvation diets, calculating that some of the suggested eating plans were likey less than 1000 calories a day.

No wonder Ms. Frankel is so thin!

But others are saying that the book has helped the to have a different mindset and philosophy about food and health.  Here’s a link to the amazon.com video of Bethany Frankel’s introduction of the book.  What do you think?
